The Help
I am currently reading The Help and I only have less than a hundred pages to go. I am LOVING it! :D It's set in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s. It's about the rights of black and white people. In the book you read from the perspective of two black maids and one white woman. It's a REALLY good book. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. (If you are a younger kid, I'd get your parents' permission first because it has some heavier topics).

I am 21-year-old author, actress, daydreamer, voracious reader, introvert, klutz, fangirl, and overuser of tape. I love the impossible (which might explain my obsessions with YA novels) but I dip into the real world . . . occasionally. I’m a big fan of dogs, Broadway musicals, and bittersweet endings. When I'm not hunched over a laptop writing a new story, you can find me onstage in whatever theatrical production I've allowed to take over my life. I am a contributor to the “Fauxpocalypse” anthology and the author of “Instructions for Flight” and “Ghost Light,” both collections of poetry. Awesome! Once you've finished reading the book you NEED to watch the movie! It's so emotional and captures the book perfectly!
Such a great book and such a good movie, too. I love that as you get older, we can share more of these kinds of books together!! :) Love you!
I finished reading it around twelve! :D SUCH a good book! :D
I loved that book, but I loved the portions from the white woman's perspective a little less. Maybe because I am a white woman and I wanted more of the perspective of the black women? I don't know. But I did love it. Glad you did too!
Kate,
One thing is for sure even the "heavy Stuff" is not too heavy for you.
I was not suprised to see that you still are up all hours of the night reading.
The Help was one of my favorite books this year, too. Women of courage, for sure. I also loved the movie even though they had to leave some of the depth out to make it a movie rather than a mini series:)
I am also enjoying your movie reviews on your other site, but, unfortuately I can't leave comments there for some reason. Keep up the reading and reviewing. It will only strengthen your own writing.
Great review. I loved the book and the movie. It was funny in some parts and very sad in some. I agree with Emily. I also loved the narration by the black women more than by the white woman.
Kate you are such a grown up little girl. I love that about you.
Thanks for the comments! :D
I can't WAIT to see the movie. My mom watched it already with my dad, and it's supposed to be really good. :D
That's it--I'm going to give in and read that book. My wife has been telling me I'd like it but I was caught up in a book about the President of Mexico. Now I'm going to read The Help.
