Camp NaNoWriMo

Who participating in Camp NaNoWriMo this year? I am! (I'm hosting a private cabin, too, so if you want to be in it, comment or e-mail with your username.)

This isn't my first time doing it, but it is the first time I'm actually going to be writing something. I've used Camp NaNo in the past as a way to motivate myself to do edits. But I've been doing a lot of editing lately, and I'm itching to start a new project. I'm especially excited for the Word Wars!

I'm actually really excited about my idea. The inspiration came from a picture I found on Pinterest that made me laugh.

I'm hoping it's not too small or fuzzy, but in case you can't make it out, it says: A writer's brain. "What the hell is that?" "Oh, just my mind thinking of my next plot."

The working title for my story is Plot Bunnies, and it's about the characters living in a writer's brain. They all live together, even if they're not from the same book. They hang out, talk, go to group therapy (if they even survive their book), etc. One day, the main character's best friend and sidekick from her novel discovers that The Writer is planning on killing her during an epic battle. The MC can't let this happen, so she organizes a group of characters--heroes and villains alike--to start a rebellion and take over their stories. This is if they can survive edits, character cuts, Writer's Block, the Pinterest vortex, and the Pit of Doubt.

Are you participating in Camp NaNoWriMo this year? What's your story about?

  1. Aaaaaaah! I love this!! I'm so excited to hear all about it and read it. I'm looking forward to your April wrap-up post - I assume there will be quotes in it from this one!

  2. P.S. Hilarious graphic. Pixar's movie this spring may be inspiring as well!

  3. @Boquinha There will definitely be quotes from it in the April wrap-up! :) I'm just not sure I can wait until then to get started.

Oh, totally. "Wreck-It Ralph" is also inspiring. That's where I got the idea for group therapy.

  6. @Adriana Gabrielle Yay! :) I added you!

My username is sportakate. Is there a buddy list feature on Camp NaNo? I haven't been able to find it.

  7. OMMMMMG I WANT YOUR BOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW. I'm still deciding on my story, tbh. I have like 3 I'm desperate to write but I don't know if any of them have stewed in my brain long enough. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL HERE. And the whole cabin things is rather terrifying. hehe. I preferred the "be friends with anyone" sort of feel of the main NaNo site.

  8. @Cait THANK YOU! There are so many ideas I'm itching to write, but I have to settle for notes right now.

Better to have 3 ideas than none, right? ;) I'm curious what they are. You could always write like a practice scene for each idea and see which one produces the best results.

I KNOW. I only just figured it out (sort of). I wish the buddy format was the same as the November NaNo's.

  9. I'm ready to do Camp NaNo, too! I'm going to try to at least get halfway through my novel but my goal is to really reach a certain WC... with track in the mix and it being the final quarter (with my social studies teacher probably eyeing me because of my "well known" essays, urgh), I may not finish. I'm real excited! I'm doing the one with Amber and Navin. ^.^ I finally got this. I GOT THIS. Oh, and my link to my Camp profile is here: http://campnanowrimo.org/campers/morningtime4

    xoxo Morning

  10. @MorningTime4 That's what I've done the past couple times. :P But now most of my novels have been finished up, except for a few that have like five pages, so time for something new.

Ooh, yay! So you got it all figured out? That's exciting. :) I can't wait to read it!

I can't add you to my cabin yet because you haven't filled out the novel portion of your profile. :( Once you do, though, I'll get that taken care of.
