August Wrap-Up

Books I Read

4/5

This was very good and especially helpful for anyone who doesn't know much about feminism but is looking to learn more about it. I found her to be very accessible and fair and truly equal when it came to her approach of gender equality. I underlined just about every other sentence as I was reading.

4/5

Though this was a little dense to get through, it was a fascinating metaphor to think about. It prompted a lot of great, deep discussion in my freshman class. It wasn't a "fun" read necessarily, but I liked thinking about it. I have a greater appreciation for Ask the Passengers now too, having read this.

3.5/5

This was fun and, for Shakespeare, fairly fluffy. I performed in "A Midsummer Night's Dream (in 17 Minutes or Less," and honestly, you basically get the gist just by watching that versus reading the full thing. It was a little hard to follow, but not super hard content wise. I appreciated all of the subtle (and not-so-subtle) humor in the sections with the Mechanicals.

3/5

I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it either. It was fairly easy to follow, but about 2/3 of the way through, I started getting really bored and confused. Overall, it was a fine story most of the way through. There were even parts of it that were a little funny.

Movies I Watched

4/5

Though this was a little on the longer side, it was excellent. Really funny at parts and definitely intriguing in the sense that I felt anxious the entire time but didn't know what exactly was going to happen. It didn't go in the direction I was expecting, which was good. It was my first Tarantino movie and I'm excited to see more!

4/5

The beginning of this was a little more lighthearted than the rest of the movie, but it's depressing the longer it goes on. This is one of those rare cases when I liked a movie even though I didn't love the main character. It was really hard for me to be on Barney's side a lot of the time, but I was intrigued enough by the story and the way he was spiraling to still enjoy watching it. The ending was confusing and kind of out of nowhere, but I liked the rest of it a lot.

4/5

This was basically the book in movie form, so if you're going read/watch one or the other, read the book first! I think it would be a little strange to watch the movie first because it takes a little getting used to the unique animation style and interesting voice acting. You'll want to have some idea of the story first before watching it. But it was very good! The humor came through a lot more in movie form. I watched it in a packed theater of freshmen since it was required for our freshmen college course and we were all cracking up.

Quotes I Wrote
