That would have to be "Flora and Ulysses" by Kate DiCamillo

@Maria Ooh, I've heard good things about Flora and Ulysses. :) Kate DiCamillo's books are always good, and this one looks super cute! Have you ever read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane? That's one of my favorites by her!
